Tip #5
November 30th, 2009
Although the Thanksgiving holiday has passed, take time to talk with your family about Thanksgiving. Ask them what they know about it, tell them about the history, maybe invite them over to your house for a Thanksgiving meal! This is a great opportunity for you to hear what they are thankful for.
Tip #4
November 17th, 2009Winter is coming, and the cold can feel even colder to people who are coming from warm climates. Take time to bring your family to the Global Neighborhood offices to pick out a winter coat (we have an abundance of women's and little girl's coats), blankets, gloves, and/or scarves. Or, make a winter clothing trip to Classy Rack. If you have extra winter clothing items at your own house, feel free to give these to your family, as long as they are in good condition and fit properly

According to Spokane Transit Authority, in 2009, 68% of riders would not have regular transportation without STA (the bus). This number largely includes refugees in Spokane. This week, take the bus to and from your refugee family's house. The luxury of driving becomes so evident when you have to ride the bus.

Take your family to Manito Park, or a park nearby their house. It's supposed to be sunny most days this week!
If it's not good enough weather, check a book out at the library of parks around the U.S. to show your family. Point out new objects that they may want to learn in English- bench, hill, colors, jog, field, etc.
